New Orleans 2024 “Soul Of America” Tour recap 🎺

FA-MLI's Cultural Journey Bridges Generations Through Jazz, History, and Documentary Filmmaking

We're excited to share some incredible news about a transformative journey that just unfolded in the heart of New Orleans. Our very own Torrence Brannon-Reese, founder of FA-MLI, recently returned from an unforgettable week-long cultural exchange that brought together generations of artists, educators, and music lovers.

A Journey Back to the Roots 🎭

From October 9-15, the "New Orleans: DA Soul of America Tour" became a living testament to the power of musical heritage. Thanks to generous support from the Snap Foundation, we were able to bring together an inspiring cultural event, including:

  • A historic gathering at Congo Square featuring students from Xavier University, local artists, residents, educators, spiritual leaders, activists, and international visitors

  • Collaborative sessions with renowned jazz expert Dr. Michael White, exploring the city's vibrant jazz history

  • Educational visits to cultural institutions, including the Free People of Color Museum and a historical Mule & Buggy tour through the French Quarter

  • Documentary filming for "Music Saved My Life," featuring powerful stories including a remarkable interview with a young trumpet player who survived nine gunshot wounds and defied medical odds to perform again—a moment Brannon-Reese dubbed "Miracle in Jackson Square"
