🔥 Beyond Thoughts and Prayers: Saving Humanity, One Human Being at a Time 🔥

This week, I had the privilege of speaking with Jason Berry, a renowned New Orleans filmmaker, whose work has connected powerful stories like the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina with the ongoing challenges we face here in Los Angeles. His upcoming article for the National Catholic Reporter draws a striking parallel between the devastation of Katrina and the recent fires here in LA. He predicts this piece will bring much-needed attention to our work—and hopefully, much-needed support.

But as we await its publication, the urgency of action remains.

The Los Angeles fires have left thousands of families displaced, compounding the struggles of those already facing homelessness. As a community, we must rise beyond words and fleeting condolences. It's time for action.

1. Faith-Based Organizations: Open your doors as sanctuaries, organize food and clothing drives, and provide spaces of comfort.

2. Homeowners: Share your space with those in need—whether it’s a guest room or vacant property.

3. City Leadership: Advocate for the activation of unused spaces and rapid deployment of resources to aid victims.

4. Businesses & Corporations: Match donations, fund relief efforts, and provide essential goods.

5. Schools & Universities: Offer unused dormitories or organize donation drives.

6. Everyone Else: Donate to organizations actively supporting displaced individuals. Every contribution counts, no matter the size.

We must also uplift the homeless population already living on the streets before this disaster. Their need is more dire than ever, and our compassion must include them.

Together, we can rebuild lives and restore hope. Let’s act now—before the embers grow cold and the urgency fades from memory.
